The increase in the number of students attending kindergarten in private schools in Oman has motivated and spurred the Ministry of Education to develop a curriculum that serves the education development process in Oman. The new kindergarten curriculum is designed to promote self-learning, enhance emotional, imaginative and aesthetic development through a range of activities with due consideration being given to the objectives and aims of education as detailed by the Ministry of Education in Oman. The Ministry of Education’s aim is to ensure that the kindergarten curriculum which has been developed and designed for use in Omani Private Schools addresses the needs of the children to learn through self-discovery, structured play etc. whilst at the same time ensuring that the principles of ‘best practice’ are fostered and nurtured. This curriculum exploits prior learning previous learning that children gained in the first three years, things that draw their attention and experiences and satisfy their desire to learn. It deals with the aspects that help those students achieve integrated development and growth. Moreover, it investigates mental, behavioral, creative, emotional and physical competencies of those students. It is meant to be comprehensive in order to enable children to develop and undertake their responsibilities in both, their small communities and the nation as well.
