The supervisor of the study:    

    Supervised study (TIMSS2007) of the International Society for assessing educational attainment IEA (The International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement), headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is interested in forty years since measuring student performance and collect information to make students learn mathematics and science more intuitive and easier

The Society is conducting the study every four years. They carried out the first study ID (TIMSS) in 1995, and reiterates held later in 1999, then in 2003. The study in 2007 will be the fourth study

The concerted efforts and cooperation of all departments of schools and teachers, supervisors and all those educational arena will have a significant and effective role in achieving the desired goal of participating in the study.

                      

 

The objective of the study TIMSS 2007:      

  President goal of this study is to compare the collection of students in science and mathematics in the education systems of different cultural backgrounds, economic and social aimed to identify the level of achievement in those regulations, and measure the impact of a range of factors related to the level of achievement, and develop statistics on the performance of students in the establishment phase in math and science, as well as the training of national cadres in a standard tests and collect data on the performance of the educational process

Study characteristics:

           

The study several advantages including:       

1.Given all the countries participating in the study an opportunity to measure achievement in math and science, compared to other countries globally or Arab participation.

2.Each participating State supply sources to analyze the results of a rich collection of articles, which will contribute to the process of improving the teaching and learning of articles.

3.In addition to testing rooms, calls this study of students, teachers and school administrators complete geometric on the teaching and learning of articles. Through these data are building avivid picture about the changes and difficulties in teaching articles, and help demonstrate new issues associated with development efforts in the area of curriculum, teaching methods and teacher training.  

   4. For this study significant impact on the reform and development efforts to upgrade the teaching and learning of mathematics and science in the world, providing a package of data necessary to support the development process of hand, and improve policies aimed to assess and guide new educational

strategies on the other side.

 

The number of countries participating in the study        

Participate in the current session of about (60) State of the various countries of the world, including (15) is an Arab country (Sultanate of Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, the State of Palestine, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Kingdom of Jordan Hashem, the Lebanese Republic, the Republic of Tunisia, Morocco, the Syrian Arab Republic, the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Republic of Djibouti))

         Students participating in the study

The study aimed at students grades 4 and 8 in participating States statutes or equivalent according to the educational system established in each State

Choose one of each participating State grades or grades together (IV, VIII) for the application of the study, has chosen the Sultanate eighth grade in the school year 2006/2007 m to participate in this study.

 

                               

 

The sample size of the study on the Sultanate:       

* Probationary phase (2006)

(25) schools (9) educational areas

(1573) students

* Actual study (2007))

(150) schools from various regions of the Sultanate

(4810) students

       Study tools:

First : brochures and achievement tests

Distributed questions on mathematics and science (14) brochure test equal to answer every student in the sample of a brochure and only one had identified him through a random distribution, each containing a brochure questions in mathematics and science, some kind of selection of multi, others of Free type responses, which calls for an answer short or lengthy answer.

Concerning paragraphs of this resolution scientific and academic backgrounds and teaching practices and trends of mathematics teachers, and teachers answered by the division of Mathematics, which is applied to the test.

Identify science teachers:

Concerning paragraphs of this resolution scientific and academic backgrounds and teaching practices and trends of science teachers, science teachers answered by the division, which is applied to the test

Identifying school:

Concerning paragraphs of this resolution information on the school environment, and the teaching staff, students, curriculum and school programs, and material resources, and staff development programs, and relationships with the school community.
